The feature film that shattered box office sales at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth 2009 is now available for free viewing in its entirety! Please feel free to leave your feedback and/or thoughts.
In other news, we’ll be leaving for a month long European trip from July 1 - Aug 1; this will serve as a great opportunity to write our next project. With that said, enjoy the sun and watch THROUGH A DARK WOOD (if you haven’t already)!
Tickets are available here to see THROUGH A DARK WOOD by Trico Films on April 25th at 1:00PM at the Experience Music Project (EMP|SFM) in Seattle. Ticket price is $8; the website uses PayPal for the online transaction, however, you can also purchase them at the door on April 25. A brief summary of the film is as followed: Through a Dark Wood tells the tale of Adam, a young man who after granted visions of the underworld is never the same. Now to save his own soul, Adam must use these visions to help the people he knows. However, the road to salvation is wrought with many obstacles, and Adam soon finds himself in a struggle between right and wrong, all the while running from his own guilt over the death of his brother. Now he must decide for himself how he will keep his soul from ending up in the hell of his own dreams.
In other news, Trico Films will be planning for their 2010 NFFTY submission very shortly. We want to go the short film route this time, and hopefully make it a period-piece. More info will be revealed as it develops. Stay tuned!

With NFFTY coming in April, our newest film is now entering production, titled Through a Dark Wood. The film is inspired by the story Inferno by Dante from the Divine Comedy. We have finished casting for the film and are ready to start shooting over the coming months. Composing for the film will be Scott Morgan, one of the geniuses behind the music from Dragonball Z. We have drawn the vocal talents of Jon Rivers to read a part for the film as well. We are very excited to begin filming on this project and we will be posting more details as they develop.
Firstly, Dylan, Jesse, and Miles Stipek turned 20 years old on the 8th! So let’s wish them a warm happy birthday! I have a few things to talk about regarding what has happened these passed few months, and some words on the future agenda of Trico Films. Recently, our good friend and actor Jesse Hallenbeck assembled DVDs for our award-winning short film, Soldiers of Necker. They are available now, but we only ask for a $10 donation fee. Just send a request to our email and I will do my best to get back to you ASAP. Moving on, we just did some promotional work for Paramount Vantage and A&E IndieFilms with the kind and helpful support of the National Film Festival for Talented Youth. The segment was on their new movie ‘AMERICAN TEEN’ and can be viewed here. Furthermore, this is the last week of college and a few of us have taken on some summer projects that involve film. So we’ll be getting additional credit for that (Woo!). Once we get college all squared away, we’re going to start pre-production on our next NFFTY film. We have some pretty cool ideas on the horizon. Well I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Keep in touch, we’ll be starting up again within the next few weeks.
PS::.. GO SEE THE DARK KNIGHT! It’s the best film of the decade!
Got quite a few things happening over the next couple months. For one, Jesse will be shooting a production at the Japanese Gardens in Seattle which will carry over as a final project in one of his classes at the University of Washington-Bothell campus. Also, starting in the summer we may be contracted to shoot several business training videos as well as commercials that will pay great amounts for our services, rendering our company profitable to invest in future equipment.
The summer will also grant us the time and effort to start on our next narrative with newly appointed television and game composer, Scott Morgan (Dragonball Z, Empires: Dawn of the Modern World). However, college has been keeping us extremely busy and unproductive on the video front (with the exception of small weekend event photography). Once the quarter is over, it should alleviate the stress and apprehension of grades. We still haven’t heard anything from the team at NFFTY or Comcast about when Soldiers of Necker will play on their Video On Demand network, but we do know that they they will show it along with other youth-made films from the festival. Notice will be provided prior to the syndication of the film -so stay tuned!
To our fellow fans, I beg you have patience; Trico Films will deliver.
It’s probably about time I actually fill a lot of you in on what has been going on these last few months with Trico Films and its crew. As many of you may know, we finished Soldiers of Necker back in early March, and a many special thanks to our composer, Carl Johnson. That guy is the coolest dude since George Lucas. Anyway, Soldiers of Necker made the spot as an official selection for the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) and premiered last Sunday on March 30 at the McCaw Hall near the Seattle Center. There were many awesome films made by so many cool people from all over the nation and abroad; it was a fantastic experience, the staff, filmmakers, and the regular ticket-buyers were all great people. 73 films were shown, and awards were given Sunday evening. To our surprise, Soldiers of Necker won the audience choice award for “Best Short Film” out of all the entries. We are very happy with this achievement, and have taken it with honor. But to be honest, just about every film at the festival deserved some kind of award. There were so many fine pieces of art that anyone would enjoy. Everything about the festival was pure coolness (the concerts, the panels, the networking, and most of all, the young filmmakers). We don’t know what we’ll make next, but we now know that there is a festival willing to support our creations and help expand the recognition of youth filmmakers across the nation and worldwide. Thanks NFFTY!!
You can watch Soldiers of Necker in the Films section of our website. Comcast Video On Demand will also be showing Soldiers of Necker starting this month. I will let all of you know when that will be available. Pictures of the event can be seen here. Cheers!
Yesterday we began shooting more scenes for our WWII short, Soldiers of Necker. This is a project we are working on for the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, debuting March 28-30. We have edited a six minute rough cut of the footage, which includes a temporary soundtrack, but is only an excerpt. The prologue, middle, and end of the film will be shot during the three day weekend of February 16 - 18. We’re really going to push it, and at the same time, try and get some authentic WWII vehicles for the shoot. So far, it’s going great and the actors are doing fabulous. We couldn’t ask for a better crew.
